About Kim
Kim Mackanic is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (NJ), Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor (NJ), Independent Clinical Social Worker (District of Columbia), and a Certified EMDR Therapist and Consultant who has been offering therapeutic services since 2009. In 2021, she opened Healing Reimagined, LLC with the goal of creating a space for herself, her clients, and the community that matches her vision for healing work. Through her personal and professional experiences, she has gained the compassion and skills to support her clients through their challenges with trauma, mental health, and substance abuse. She strives to integrate anti-racist practice and policy in all that she does. Kim also provides Clinical Supervision, EMDR Consultation, and Professional Mentorship.
Kim began her career providing individual and group counseling services for trauma survivors of interpersonal violence both inside and outside of prison walls. She later spent more than five years working in a long-term addiction and mental health treatment program, which furthered her understanding of both the immense pain an individual can experience and the capacity for healing we all have. For Kim, the combination of her personal and professional experiences has made the extensive overlap between trauma, mental health, and substance abuse extremely clear, and has motivated her to fight alongside her clients with compassion and humor.
Observing the many injustices of our criminal justice system is what initially drew her into the field of social work and expanded her concepts of community and empathy. After years of working for both nonprofit and private institutions, Kim observed repeating patterns and systemic barriers which made it difficult for her clients and colleagues, as well as herself, to create equitable healing spaces. She began to pursue personal and professional opportunities to understand systemic barriers to wellness, her own white privilege and how that can affect her clients, and ways to integrate anti-racist practice, policy, and support in all that she does. This transformative and ongoing learning process has served as the inspiration and foundation for Healing Reimagined, LLC, and will continue to guide her on this journey.
In her free time, Kim loves all things Halloween, her dog (Dobby), crafting, theatre, traveling, and nail art.
